Imran follows the footsteps of uncle Aamir

Actor Imran Khan is following in the footsteps of his uncle Aamir Khan and pasting posters of his new film "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola" on taxis.
Imran recounts the similarity between his way and what Aamir once did.
"Twenty four years ago Aamir uncle pasted the posters of his film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. I remember him telling the story that he and my mother were roaming around the by-lanes of Bandra and seeking the permission of rickshaw drivers to paste the posters of his film and telling them that he is the hero of the film," the 29-year-old said here Monday while promoting the film.
"Flash forward 24 years and I find myself doing the same thing. Actually in our city public transport is the most important thing whether it is rickshaw, taxis or buses, it has always been the lifeline of the city. I think it is the easiest way to communicate and reach out to the people," he added.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola" also features Anushka Sharma, Pankaj Kapur and Shabana Azmi. It hits theatres Jan 11.

Huge dearth of writers in Bollywood; Paresh Rawal

Actor Paresh Rawal feels there is a huge dearth to writers in the Hindi film industry.
"There is a huge dearth of writers in Bollywood but one good thing is that at least we have stopped stealing films from Hollywood," Paresh told IANS.
"After many cases now we have started working a bit in writing, earlier many of them used to get the DVD's and say we want to do this film and at least that has changed. Many good writers are coming. Things are going to change but again it's a virtue out of helplessness," he added.
However, the veteran actor is all praises for new actors.
"The new breed of actors is very hard working and very knowledgeable. They know what they are doing. Rajeev Khandelwal and Ranbir Kapoor, I think, are terrific," the 62-year-old said.
Paresh is gearing for the release of new film "Table No 21" that features Rajeev Khandelwal and Tena Desae. It is due to release Jan 4.

Vijeta Pandit distraught over missing sister

Former actress and wife of music composer Aadesh Shrivastav, Vijeta Pandit, is sickened and distraught with worry about her sister Sandhya Singh, who has gone missing since Dec 13.
Vijeta, whose fear is that her sister was killed for her jewellery just as she was about to enter a bank, is baffled that Mumbai police have not been able to gather any information on her whereabouts.
Crazed with worry Vijeta says: "What has happened to my sister? We don't know! She's happily married and she is the prettiest among us sisters. She's two years older than me. Unlike Sulakshana Didi and me, she never wanted to be part of the cinema industry. She's happy being a housewife. The police seem clueless. For 13 days I've been travelling back and forth from my home to the police station to my sister's place in Vashi. So far we've hit only a dead end. My sister was so happy. Her husband was a commissioner in the excise department and she had two lovely children whom she was extremely fond of."
Then Vijeta corrected herself: "Why am I speaking of her in the past tense? We're all praying she would return. Sandhya's one weakness is jewellery. She is too tooooo attached to jewellery and wears tonnes of it. She has lots of her husband's ancestral ornaments and she loves to flash them around. I always warn her not to travel with so much jewellery. Whenever she comes home I make her take off all the jewellery and tie it up in a handkerchief, put it her purse before she travels back home to Vashi."
Vijeta's other sister Sulakshana stays with Vijeyta and Aadesh. She has still to be told of the trauma the family faces, as she is considered too weak to handle such news.
Vijeta said: "If Sulakshana Didi comes to know that our sister is missing, she wouldn't be able to take it. She wouldn't be able to bear the shock."
"We're hoping the criminals would take the jewellery and release my sister," Vijeta says.

10 best independent films of 2012 in Retrospect

In a year when big-budget, star-studded Bollywood films and the Rs.100 crore club made headlines, there were some small-budget independent films too, which managed to attract eyeballs, with their strong storylines and visual appeal, without any backing from studios or actors.
IANS lists 10 best independent films, which left an impact at various national and international film festivals during 2012.
"Kshay": Shot completely in black-and-white, "Kshay" directed by debutant Karan Gour, is a psychological drama about obsession. Rasika Duggal's portrayal of an obsessive housewife was outstanding. The film played in four festivals including last year's Dubai International Film Festival and won awards and critical acclaim from western critics.
"Ship of Theseus": Known for writing soaps like "Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" and "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki", debutant director Anand Gandhi addressed questions such as redemption and death in his first feature length film "Ship of Theseus" with the support of stunning performances by its actors. The film made quite a stir at the Toronto International Film Festival.
"Gattu": A heart-warming tale of childlike innocence hidden within us. "Gattu" was made with the help of Children's Film Society of India. The story of a young boy obsessed with kite-flying, "Gattu" may be yet another children's film but in essence it highlights the power of hope. Directed by Rajan Khosa, the film was held in high regard by critics and film reviewers all over the world.
"Mumbai Cha Raja": Manjeet Singh's "Mumbai Cha Raja" explores the underbelly of Mumbai during the rainy Ganesh festival. Touted to be India's answer to "Slumdog Millionaire", this film is a perfect blend of joy, sorrow and misfortune. The film was the official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2012, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival New Horizons Competition and the Mumbai Film Festival Indian Competition.
"Miss Lovely": Ashim Ahluwalia's "Miss Lovely" traverses through a long forgotten era of C-grade Bollywood horror and porn films. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Niharika Singh, the film competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. It also won two awards at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival this year.
"Supermen of Malegaon" (SOM): SOM takes us through the lives of people, who are united over a single goal to produce a Malegaon version of "Superman" by making spoofs on Bollywood films. Before its theatrical release in June this year, the film bagged 15 awards at various film festivals.
"Good Night Good Morning" (GNGM): Shot completely in black-and-white, GNGM plunges into the psyche of the viewers by highlighting the strong desire to be loved. Following screenings at several international film festivals, the tragic yet comedy film saw a theatrical release in India Jan 20 and opened to mostly positive reviews.
"Shuttlecock Boys": The film was made by all first timers. Most of the cast members are non-actors and didn't have any formal training. The film revolves around the lives, successes and failures of four friends who hail from lower middle class backgrounds in Delhi. It made its way to festivals including the Gotham Screen International Film Festival, New York, the Seattle South Asian Film Festival and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
"Delhi in A Day": Prashant Nair's debut feature, set against the backdrop of a rich family in Delhi, makes a strong statement on the socio-economic strata without deviating from the crux of the plot. The film had flashes of comedy to shine a light on the uncomfortable realities of contemporary life.
"Peddlers": Crime-thriller "Peddlers" is an ode to Mumbai that narrates a raw story of three characters that share an almost appalling behaviour since childhood. The film was screened as part of the 2012 International Critics' Week, an independent film event which runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival in southern France.
